Coeur d'Alene Canfield Mountain
Canfield Mountain is the nearest mountain to Coeur d'Alene and, thereby, the nearest location for serious single track. Canfield is US Forest Service land, so when you're up there you have the run of the place. Not only that, there are a ton of trails at your disposal -- everything from white-knuckle downhills to tamer forest service roads that even the kids can handle.
The best access is via Nettleton Gultch Road on the east side of Coeur d'Alene -- just take it to its terminus and then it transitions into a USFS road. Travel up the mountain just a little ways and there is a designated parking spot and numerous trail heads that mark the beginning of a sweet time.
